In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.
This was a hard choice for me between the Stargate Atlantis episodes 'The Rising' and 'The Storm' & 'The Eye' but I'm going to go with 'The Rising'. Pilot episodes are usually one of my favorites of any series because you get thrown right into what and who the story is about and there are usually a lot of first meetings between the main characters which I always covet.
In 'The Rising' we get started with laconic helicopter pilot John Sheppard who likes it in Antarctica and, bonus, it's an automatic crossover with Stargate SG-1. Then right into the first meeting of John and his soon to be BFF Rodney and lots of our main cast. Then there is SPACE and lost cities and peril! John establishes himself as a geek with a Star Wars joke and we get to meet Teyla and awaken an ancient evil, which btw is space vampires. Anyway, it sets up lots of adventures and shenanigans and found family, all things I adore.

Date: 2019-01-04 01:55 am (UTC)I loved the introduction of Sheppard and how easily he fit in with Jack -- honestly, I would have been happy with half the episode being the two of them just talking in the helicopter and Jack realizing this kid pilot is SGC material. But, the images of the city and the visuals of the city rising. The introduction of Teyla -- a female leader who is respected by her people and holds her ground against Sumner and her appreciation of John. John and Rodney.
Gah. I love this show and I loved the strength of the pilot.
I also agree -- The Storm/The Eye is incredible!

"That's pretty succinct."

Date: 2019-01-05 03:54 pm (UTC)To be fair, Sheppard is almost always being badass somewhere.

Date: 2019-01-06 10:46 am (UTC)So many other show pilots falter because they think they have to invest the whole opening episode into describing every facet of the characters - so much exposition making it so dull. SGA pilot showed rather than told :)
