summer deck reading
May. 15th, 2024 09:13 pmFinished some books! Summer deck reading time is so good.
The Ionian Mission by Patrick O'Brian. Book 8 of the Aubrey-Maturin series. Not destined to be one of my favorites of the series but still extremely well-written.
The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley. This is an unfolding mystery about a scientist-prisoner sent to an irradiated town in Russia during the Cold War and it's kind of like a horror novel told in a very factual and casual way and I love that. Great characters, pacing, and writing.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher. Twisted but warm fairy tale.
I watched all three seasons of The Great about Catherine the Great of Russia (highly dramatized) and it was fantastically funny and fucked up. Gorgeous costuming. By season 3, I did think it was getting a little repetitive although then they wrenched something which made it more interesting but ultimately I didn't love.
Also watched The Artful Dodger. I never read Oliver Twist so I feel like I missed some background but still fun.
The first season of X-Men '97 just finished today!! There was a post-credits scene that I almost missed. I wish shows would stop doing that. Anyway ( spoilers )
Lastly, I did in fact complete a vid in time for
vidukon_cardiff! It's killing me to not be able to post it but I'm excited for it to be in the Premieres show and I'm really stoked for the whole con.
