Finished some books! Summer deck reading time is so good.
The Ionian Mission by Patrick O'Brian. Book 8 of the Aubrey-Maturin series. Not destined to be one of my favorites of the series but still extremely well-written.
The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley. This is an unfolding mystery about a scientist-prisoner sent to an irradiated town in Russia during the Cold War and it's kind of like a horror novel told in a very factual and casual way and I love that. Great characters, pacing, and writing.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher. Twisted but warm fairy tale.
I watched all three seasons of The Great about Catherine the Great of Russia (highly dramatized) and it was fantastically funny and fucked up. Gorgeous costuming. By season 3, I did think it was getting a little repetitive although then they wrenched something which made it more interesting but ultimately I didn't love.
Also watched The Artful Dodger. I never read Oliver Twist so I feel like I missed some background but still fun.
The first season of X-Men '97 just finished today!! There was a post-credits scene that I almost missed. I wish shows would stop doing that. Anyway I really thought we would get Gambit back by time travel by the end of this season and I was very shook until the post-credit scene I almost missed. I'm kind of annoyed we're going to Apocalypse storyline next season apparently because I am tired of that but I'll still watch. I would have preferred they go with a more current comics storyline. I don't read the comics but from tumblr posts I've seen it seems like something interesting is going on. Oh and the whole thing with Asteroid M was kind of hilarious. Like, humanity shoots at Magneto's asteroid and does not consider that the asteroid might then fall back toward Earth and kill everyone. Truly hoisted by their own petard.
Lastly, I did in fact complete a vid in time for
vidukon_cardiff! It's killing me to not be able to post it but I'm excited for it to be in the Premieres show and I'm really stoked for the whole con.
