having adventures on your own
Aug. 14th, 2021 04:08 pmI feel like I tempted the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing because immediately after I had a sudden inspiration to write, we had 4 days of power outage. But I did finish some books!
Finished Reading:
The One by John Marrs. I didn’t like any of the characters but I still read this very quickly because I had to know the drama. There was A Lot of Drama. As much as I love soulmate AUs, sadly this twist on it sucked out all the comfort parts I like about the trope, leaving terrible things :(
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Space adventure/disaster told via chat logs, emails, memos, maps! I love storytelling in unique format like this. I’m not sure how it would have worked as an ebook so glad I got the paperback.
The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo. Enjoyed this.
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. Definitely my favorite of this lot. The suspense! I was like, what is happening, what is happening, what is happening. Kind of fantasy/horror? Great writing.
Now Reading:
The Wind's Twelve Quarters: Stories by Ursula K. Le Guin
All Systems Red by Martha Wells. Re-read.
Up Next:
I have Vicious by V. E. Schwab on hold at the library and I've heard good things about it so probably that. And the Illuminae sequels.
