Reading Wednesday which I've seen several people do, Fan Rec Friday where I'll rec my latest favorite fanworks, Weekend Watch for all the TV/movies I'm watching and maybe Monday randomly for writing/other projects I'm working on.
Finished Reading:
Master & Apprentice (Star Wars) by Claudia Gray
The Phantom Menace was my first in theater Star Wars and I retain a lot of feelings over Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon and their fraught Master/Padawan relationship.
You basically know going into this that the main conflict of Qui-Gon possibly giving up Obi-Wan as an apprentice won't happen because Obi-Wan is still his apprentice during TPM (of course then Qui-Gon fucks it up in TPM which this book sets up a bit) but I enjoyed the exploration of it. As much as I love them together, I do think they might have been better off if someone else took over Obi-Wan's apprenticeship because they are kind of a mix match and I think the Jedi Apprentice canon that Obi-Wan got passed over by everyone else and Yoda manipulated their pairing—which provided me a lot of good angst fic—got retconned. I'm very fond of Mace as Obi-Wan's Master fics.
The way things happened in this book felt plausible to me but I still feel kind of cheated that
1. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan staying Master and Padawan wasn't that much about their feelings about it.
2. We got Fanry POV that I don't feel really foreshadowed her about-face to slightly deranged warrior queen. I would have found it more effective without any parts from her POV.
Also, about 25% of the way into the book, I felt very sure of what was going to happen and it 100% did not happen. Which is that Qui-Gon and/or Rael would have to make the same choice about killing Obi-Wan to serve the greater good that Rael had to make about Nim. I guess that would have been too on the nose but I wanted to see the angst! And I completely thought Rael would offer to take over Obi-Wan's apprenticeship. Maybe I'll write some fic because in my head I had this expectation:
Also also, there was a character beat in this for Obi-Wan early in about him loving to fly and I was like 'Excuse me? Obi-Wan Kenobi hates flying' but then it came back around in the end with a reason he now hates flying which amused me.
Within the Sanctuary of Wings by Marie Brennan
This was the fifth and last book of the Lady Trent series which is a faux memoir of a badass lady dragon naturalist. I enjoyed it but I don't really have a lot to say about it.

From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg
This is one of those acclaimed YA books that I missed when I was YA but I've heard people talk about so figured I'd catch up with it now. Less than 200 pages so should be a quick read.
The Horus Killings by Paul Doherty
The second of several Egyptian crime solving mysteries in this series. I love ancient Egypt and I love crime solving so this was pretty much made for me. I've read them all and this is a re-read. I think I remember the killer but I'll re-read mysteries where I know the ending all the time. Amerotke is an enjoyable main character.

"No," Qui-Gon said, knee-jerk and immediate, before Rael had even finished speaking. The kind of abrupt, visceral reaction you couldn't take back. He winced internally from the look of shock on Rael's face, but Qui-Gon had seen the holo of Nim's death too many times. He could superimpose Obi-Wan with terrible clarity.
