Space & Magic

Solo: I finally watched this since it was on Netflix but I knew going into it that it probably wasn't for me. I love Han but I mostly love him in conjunction with Luke and Leia. Despite all the hovercar and train and spaceship chases, this just felt weirdly flat to me. I did, however, love Lando who is a favorite of mine. Which, it also bothered me that L3 got put into the Millennium Falcon and Han knew this and saw how much Lando cared about her and still took the ship? Seemed like kind of a dick move. Anyway, I would be interested to see more of Enfys Nest or Q'ira with Black Sun.

The Clone Wars: I'm still in the first season of this but I'm enjoying it so far. There's a lot of new characters, or maybe side characters from other Star Wars stuff that I didn't know. I especially like Ahsoka. And the animation style works for me. Obi-Wan's block beard is a thing of beauty.

Prequels: Re-watched The Phantom Menace for the first time in awhile. Although I pretty much know it by heart so I must have watched it a lot at one time. Unsurprising since it was my first in-theater Star Wars and I love Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan and Liam Neeson Qui-Gon and I still have a lot of feelings about their relationship, most of which is better illustrated and stated in this post than I could ever do. (My tumblr is a huge Star Wars mess right now.) God, the backhand 'he still has much to learn but he's competent'. Fuck you, Qui-Gon Jinn. Usually I consider competence a high compliment but in this case it was clearly not. And then his dying words putting training Anakin on Obi-Wan. I hate it. I've read 500 Qui-Gon lives/relationship fix-it fics and I would read 500 more and may be writing one myself.

This finally came in off the library hold list! I finished it quickly and sent it back for the next person. (Please release it in paperback, Publishers!) Peter Grant continues to be my favorite and I enjoy this series despite possibly not always following the plot very well. I'd really like to see it be a TV series. I thought it got optioned a while back but I haven't heard anything lately.

Every time Peter talks about architecture stuff, which is a lot, I keep wondering if we're ever going to get some kind of reveal about why he didn't get into university for it because he's obviously smart as hell, but at seven books in I'm thinking maybe that wasn't supposed to be some character backstory mystery the way I decided it was in my head. He did make a comment in this book about being life-changingly bad at art and architects probably have to be good at blueprints and models I guess.

Also, Peter got kidnapped FOR DAYS and Nightengale was super blase about it?! I'm going to go re-read my own fic where this happened and I wrote some emotional catharsis. They did briefly talk about mental health later and Peter now has a psychiatrist so that's good at least.

Whatever I'm consuming is generally what I end up writing, the problem being that I consume and move on to something new more quickly than I finish writing. So now I'm writing Star Wars Prequels Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon relationship fix instead of finishing my Les Mis Olympics AU. And off to the side is my SGA fic for [community profile] romancingmcshep but that at least has a 'due date' in February so it stays on my priority list.

There are about a million fix-its for TPM in the world, but there can always be another. XD

Poor Peter got put through the wringer in Lies Sleeping. I enjoyed it, despite that, but really wished there was more Nightingale in it. I feel as though there was more going on with him while Peter was kidnapped, but we just weren't shown it.

Have you listened to the audiobooks? They're some of the best audiobook readings I've ever come across.

As for Peter's back story, yeah, I don't think we're ever going to get the full reason for why architecture didn't happen for him, but in the graphic novels I know there's a scene where we do find out that there were other units (other than the admin unit and Nightingale) that had their eye on Peter during his probation.
