If you enjoyed Ivan, check out "The Tatooist of Auschwitz" by Heather Morris. It's a longer time period but there are parallels that make comparing/contrasting the two books interesting.
"A Gentleman of Moscow" was very Russian but much less depressing. Recommended. (I didn't see the TV adaptation, so I can't tell you about that.)
